O’Connor attended Radford School for Girls where she graduated two years early. She attended Stanford University at 16 and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Economics. At the age of 20, she was accepted to Stanford Law School. O’Connor graduated third in her 1952 class, unheard of for a woman. Fresh out of school, she was unable to find work as an attorney, applying to over 40 law firms in the San Francisco area. Only one responded, asking “How well do you type?”.
